Here are my 5 key take aways from from the meeting:1. BOARD ELECTIONS: no director changes for now2. HKCA FEES: HOK and KON to increase 16%, LUN 5%3. AC: HOK and KON project cost has risen sharply to $30M4. MOTIONS ADOPTED: 2 board resolutions adopted 5. OWNER MOTIONS: none adopted For those interested, here are further details and commentary:1. BOARD ELECTIONS: no director changes for nowNo Hokulani residential candidate received enough votes in the electronic elections to be elected.  As a result, elections were held during the annual meeting primarily via proxy.  During the first vote, no candidate reached the election threshold. After a motion to adjourn was defeated, a second vote was held which resulted in the election of Stew Levine for a 3 year term. The next two highest vote getters were Marla Gerber and Laurinda McKenzie each receiving 18% falling just short of the 20% election bar. Due to HKCA bylaws, current directors Tali and Wilde will remain as Hokulani directors until the 2025 HKCA Annual Meeting unless an election is called sooner.  I unfortunately do not know the results of the organizational meeting held to elect officers.  2. HKCA FEES: HOK and KON owners will experience sharp fee increases (>15%) in 2025Due largely to necessary increases in AC reserves and higher insurance premiums, Hokulani and Konea owners will be hit with a substantial increase of 15-16% in 2025.  Luana owners will have a far more modest 5% increase.3. AC: HOK and KON project cost has risen sharply, LUN gets a free ride thanks to BoardThe Board gave a rather shocking estimate of $30 Million for the HOK and KON AC replacement project which is roughly a 50% increase from last year's estimate. This is $50,000 per unit. One owner did strongly question the wisdom of committing to a new system when the current system can be kept operational for many more years if we reuse components when a stack is replaced with a new system.  This could provide the necessary spare parts to keep the original AC system running at a small fraction of the cost of full replacement.  Regarding Luana AC, those owners can thank the 5 directors who are also Luana owners but refused to properly recuse themselves from an executive session vote to sue the developer over AC defect.  HKCA has no financial or legal obligation over these alleged defects, yet as a result of this all owners will end up paying costly legal bills which could run into the hundreds of thousands.  It's a sad example of how this Board looks after its own interests instead of yours.  4. MOTIONS ADOPTED: Resolutions adopted for standalone director elections elections and residential election rules The first permanently adopted the rules for election of residential directors and the second granted permanent authorization for holding separate board elections via electronic voting.  This means owners will have to deal with the cost, confusion and inconvenience of holding separate elections and annual meeting from now on rather than keeping them as a single event.    5. OWNER MOTIONS: 4 proposed, none adopted due to lack of secondNone of my resolutions received the necessary second for discussion.  These were each advisory motions meaning the Board had discretion on whether to act upon them.  They involved:1. Full electronic meeting participation by owners 2. Ban on use of HKCA funds for private developer lawsuits3. NC2 director election by vote of owners instead of appointment4. Formation of professional resort management committee As disappointed as I was, I do not regret making them and still consider these crucial matters for all owners going forward. Full electronic meeting participation at the 2025 HKCA Annual Meeting is a right that all owners should demand when the technology for this has existed for years.  This would largely eliminate proxies and allow owners to have full say in HKCA matters.  Perhaps most importantly, owners deserve 5-star quality professional management of Honua Kai Resort and the failure of the Board to grasp this reality only puts us further behind each year. The Board will soon hire a new GM for HKCA who if the past is any indication, will be vastly overpaid and then face the nearly impossible challenge of hiring and keeping great employees working for a dead-end HOA. Like his predecessors, he will be micro-managed and then eventually fired by the Board starting the process all over again.  What's that saying about the definition of insanity again ...

KBM Resorts Vacation Rental program requires a commitment of 12 months. For the Red Cross program exclusively, the commitment is required through May 31, 2024 and in March 2024, there will be the opportunity to extend this commitment 2, 4 or 6 more months.

Some of our units do have multiple bed configurations in some of their rooms. For example, one of the bedrooms may normally have a king size bed, but can be turned into two twins. If you would like to request a configuration change, please send an email to guestservices@kbmresorts.com as soon as possible, including your reservation number, full name the reservation is listed under, and what configuration you would prefer. Please do this at least 72 hours prior to arrival, so we can ensure your request is attended to prior to arrival.

Car rental pick up times are dependent on the hours of whichever company your car rental is with, Budget or Avis. Budget closes at 11pm so you must pick up your vehicle before this time.
