Year-round: sunny Kohala and Kona coasts
The Big Island's west side is its driest and sunniest, which is where most of our homes are. Days are warm and dry in every season, and Hilo on the east side gets far more rain.
December to April: whales and winter swell
Humpback whales visit the coast, and north- and west-facing beaches can see bigger surf. Ocean-side snorkeling is best on calm mornings.
Summer: calm seas
May to September brings the calmest water for snorkeling and paddleboarding. It is also a good time to see the famous manta ray night dives off Kona.
