Best Area to Stay on Maui in a Vacation Condo

There is no single best area; the right one depends on how you like to vacation. KBM's Maui neighborhoods guide describes Kihei as a more casual, everyday base than the resort areas, with easy access to grocery stores, casual restaurants and the long Kamaole beach parks, and generally closer to Kahului Airport than Kaanapali or Wailea. KBM's Wailea page describes Wailea as South Maui's upscale resort district, with a notably drier, sunnier climate than West Maui and a 1.5-mile coastal path connecting Wailea, Ulua and Mokapu beaches; The Shops at Wailea anchor its dining and retail. For families, KBM's neighborhoods guide says Kaanapali's long, activity-dense beach and walkable restaurant strip often suits families who want more going on nearby, while Wailea's calmer coves are especially well suited to families with younger children. For a quieter trip, KBM describes Wailea as a quieter, more polished setting, and Wailea Elua Village is a low-rise community fronting Ulua Beach.
